Heart Disease
There is now compelling evidence, including published peer
reviewed journal articles, clearly showing that heart disease can
actually be reversed through lifestyle changes.
Dean Ornish
M.D. is president and director of the Preventive Medicine
Research institute and Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of
California. He has done much work and published numerous studies
in top medical journals in the area of heart disease reversal and
other health topics. These include the Journal of the American
Medical Association, The Lancet, Circulation, The New England
Journal of Medicine and the American Journal of Cardiology. His
book, a New York Times bestseller, 'Dr. Dean Ornish's Program for Reversing Heart Disease' has received
much praise worldwide.

Dr. Neal Pinckney was diagnosed with
severe coronary heart disease in 1993. He chose not to have
surgery but instead found the works of Dean Ornish M.D. Seven
months later, he finished in the middle of the pack of the Great
Aloha Run, an 8.5 mile race. He has since written the 'Healing Heart
Handbook' and runs the Healing Heart Foundation
where he has helped many hundreds of people overcome heart
disease. He also hosts a discussion forum where he
generously answers people's questions about reversing heart
disease through lifestyle changes.
Caldwell Esselstyn,
Jr., M.D. is a Preventive
Cardiology Consultant, Department of General Surgery, Cleveland
Clinic Foundation, Ohio. "Since 1985 Dr. Esselstyn has
conducted the longest running study which proves that heart
disease can be arrested or reversed by a low fat, plant-based
diet."

What do the lifestyle recommendations of the above three
professionals have in common? They all advocate diets:
·
Very low or devoid in animal products
·
Very low in total fat, below 10% of total calories
·
Extremely low in saturated fat
·
Low or devoid of cholesterol
·
Low in salt
·
Very low in refined foods
·
Very high in fiber
The diets consist almost entirely of low fat plant foods such
as fruits, vegetables, whole grains and legumes. They also advise
their patients to get appropriate amounts of exercise.
