There is now compelling evidence, including published peer reviewed journal articles, clearly showing that heart disease can actually be reversed through lifestyle changes.


Dean Ornish M.D. is president and director of the Preventive Medicine Research institute and Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of California. He has done much work and published numerous studies in top medical journals in the area of heart disease reversal and other health topics. These include the Journal of the American Medical Association, The Lancet, Circulation, The New England Journal of Medicine and the American Journal of Cardiology. His book, a New York Times bestseller, 'Dr. Dean Ornish's Program for Reversing Heart Disease' has received much praise worldwide.

Dr. Neal Pinckney was diagnosed with severe coronary heart disease in 1993. He chose not to have surgery but instead found the works of Dean Ornish M.D. Seven months later, he finished in the middle of the pack of the Great Aloha Run, an 8.5 mile race. He has since written the 'Healing Heart Handbook' and runs the Healing Heart Foundation where he has helped many hundreds of people overcome heart disease. He also hosts a discussion forum where he generously answers people's questions about reversing heart disease through lifestyle changes.


Caldwell Esselstyn, Jr., M.D. is a Preventive Cardiology Consultant, Department of General Surgery, Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Ohio. "Since 1985 Dr. Esselstyn has conducted the longest running study which proves that heart disease can be arrested or reversed by a low fat, plant-based diet."

What do the lifestyle recommendations of the above three professionals have in common? They all advocate diets:

·         Very low or devoid in animal products

·         Very low in total fat, below 10% of total calories

·         Extremely low in saturated fat

·         Low or devoid of cholesterol

·         Low in salt

·         Very low in refined foods

·         Very high in fiber

The diets consist almost entirely of low fat plant foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains and legumes. They also advise their patients to get appropriate amounts of exercise.
